Unboxing and First Impressions

Upon unboxing the Redmi Note 14 Pro.The first thing that Catching the eye of your is its familiar packaging. The box design remains mostly unchanged from previous iterations with the phone name and branding clearly visible. However, what catches the eye is the sleek, premium finish of the phone inside.

Inside the box, you will find the usual accessories:

A SIM ejector tool

A 90W fast charger, quite a powerhouse given that most fast chargers are usually around 45W.

A USB Type-A to Type-C cable

The case that comes with the phone features a lined pattern, a bit different from what we have seen before and is quite flexible.

Design and Build Quality

At first glance, the Redmi Note 14 Pro feels slightly hefty in hand. Weighing around 210 grams, it is a bit on the heavier side compared to other models. but the weight is justifiable due to the massive 6200mAh battery inside. For perspective, most smartphones typically house around 5000mAh batteries. so this phone is packing serious power is enough to charge other devices in a pinch!

The edges of the phone are rounded. its making it comfortable to hold and despite the weight. it does not feel too bulky thanks to the slim sides. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and Gorilla Glass 7 on the back give the phone a solid, premium feel, protecting it from drops and scratches.

The back of the phone features a wave-like or mountain-inspired pattern depending on the angle you view it from. It has a subtle shine enhancing the overall aesthetic. Unlike last year egan leather back. Xiaomi has switched to glass. which gives the device a more polished and premium look.

Camera Setup

One of the major talking points of the Redmi Note 14 Pro is its upgraded camera system. The triple camera setup on the back looks significantly different from previous models. The primary camera is a 50MP lens with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) ensuring sharp and stable shots. There is also a 50MP telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom and an 8MP ultra-wide lens.

While the camera looks impressive on paper. there are some areas where it struggles. In certain lighting conditions particularly while using the 2.5x telephoto lens. we noticed that the HDR processing was inconsistent. Sometimes, the camera would have trouble balancing bright skies and dark foregrounds, resulting in unnatural images. This issue, however, may be resolved with software optimizations when the phone officially launches in India.

That said, portrait shots taken with the telephoto lens were impressive delivering decent edge detection and background blur. Selfies were also smooth with the camera tending to soften skin tones for a slightly more polished look.

Display and Multimedia

The Redmi Note 14 Pro sports a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is curved at the edges offering a more immersive viewing experience. With a peak brightness of 3000 nits. it is one of the brightest displays in its segment. thats making it easily viewable under direct sunlight. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support ensure that colors are vibrant and contrast levels are sharp particularly when watching videos or playing games.

The dual speakers on the phone provide excellent sound quality. While the bass could be a little stronger. the overall audio output is clear and loud. This makes it a good choice for watching movies or gaming without needing external speakers.

Battery Life and Charging

As mentioned earlier, the 6200mAh battery is one of the standout features of this phone. In day-to-day usage. this massive battery easily powers through a full day of heavy use and can even last into a second day with moderate use.

Charging is fast, thanks to the 90W fast charger included in the box. While it is not as fast as some of the 120W chargers seen in previous models, it is still more than enough to get a full charge in around 45 minutes.

Performance

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 14 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor. While this is not the top-of-the-line chip in the Snapdragon lineup, it is still incredibly capable for its price point. Paired with LPDDR5 RAM available in 8GB, 12GB and 16GB variants. The phone handles multitasking, gaming and other resource-heavy tasks with ease.

In our gaming test, the phone managed to run high-end games at high settings without breaking a sweat. Over an hour of gaming the average FPS stayed around 39-40 FPS on high settings with minimal frame drops. The thermal management is also impressive with the phone reaching a maximum temperature of 45°C after an hour of gaming, which is well within acceptable limits.

Software

The phone runs on Android 14, with Xiaomi’s MIUI skin on top. MIUI is known for its customization options and this phone is no exception. You can tweak almost every aspect of the interface from wallpapers and widgets to gestures and dynamic elements on the lock screen. However, the presence of Chinese bloatware apps can be a bit annoying. but Xiaomi usually optimizes this for the Indian market. so we expect fewer pre-installed apps when it officially launches.

The haptic feedback on the device is excellent offering a premium feel. Every vibration, whether from typing or notifications is subtle yet satisfying.

Camera: Detailed Performance

During our tests, we noticed that the HDR performance needed some fine-tuning. The telephoto lens in particular and had some difficulty managing extreme light contrasts often overexposing the sky while underexposing darker areas. This issue was most apparent when trying to capture detailed landscapes or portraits against bright backdrops.

Daylight shots were generally very good with natural colors and excellent detail. However, the skin smoothing in photos might not appeal to everyone especially users who prefer more natural tones. In low-light conditions. the ultra-wide lens struggled a bit with detail, and the telephoto lens continued to have some HDR challenges. However, Xiaomi is known for rolling out camera software updates. so there is a hope these issues will be ironed out soon.

Price and Final Thoughts

The unit we reviewed was priced around ₹28,000 when converted from foreign currency. Given the features and performance, this price seems quite reasonable. In India, the price is expected to be around ₹25,000 to ₹26,000, which would make it a strong competitor in the mid-range smartphone market.

The Redmi Note 14 Pro is a well-rounded smartphone with a large battery, solid performance, a premium design and a feature-packed camera system (albeit with some minor issues). If Xiaomi can optimize the camera software and refine a few details before its Indian release. this phone could easily become one of the best choices in its segment.

Conclusion

the Redmi Note 14 Pro is a great option for those looking for a premium experience at a mid-range price. Its strong battery life, powerful performance and stylish design make it stand out in a crowded market. If Xiaomi addresses the MInor camera issues, this phone will be a top contender in its category.
